To make it clear. We at this website don't think that cash for appliances is oppression. I'm getting a new dishwasher with it.

I personally don't understand the GOP definition of liberty or oppression or tyranny. Whenever they use the words, they make no sense.

Nothing wrong with fighting. Throw eggs at them and be arrested. I'll defend your right to do it. But I'm just saying that if your actions will result in the opposite of what you want, which is no health care and more wars under Republican leadership, then you should rethink what is best for you.

Voting for Zippy the clown takes away one Democratic vote and the GOP will likely be energized so voting for Zippy, or no one, likely gives the Republican candidate more than one vote. We need every vote.

Lesser of the two evils is better than the greater of the two evils.

I must agree with Nick on many of his points.

I must say, I don't consider the discontent on the left to be "Whining"

I consider it to be "Fighting"

To be fair, we all need to understand that Congress IS a compromise. That is what legislating in a Congress is all about.

However, these days, it seems the Democrats' definition of a "Compromise" is to give in on something important, and not get anything in return.

When the car salesman offers you a car for $20,000 you say, "$18,000 and you stain master my seats." What you don't do is offer him $22,000

I agree with Nick. These guys gotta go. It's not as if we must vote a bunch of Republikhan's into office. (Nick said, "Reichwingers" LMAO)

We simply don't vote for the incumbent during primary elections anymore. No primary win... No general election.

Okay. All that said, I still hold some value to Jeff's comments.

What I took from it is this. We should be very clear about our intentions when we speak about these things with other progressives.

If the Klingons get both the Congress and the White House back anytime in the next 10 or 15 years, the results would be catastrophic to us and lethal to eastern life and civilization.

Think for a moment what hell Sarah Palin would have unleashed had she been president on Christmas day 2009. Think about it.

We don't want to unknowingly convince people to vote Republican. Be clear.

I think this was the meat of Jeff's argument.

On the other hand... We don't want to resign ourselves to forever voting for "The lesser of two evils"

It's time for change. It's time for our president NOT to lead, but to follow. I don't think that is a radical statement.

- Joe

I completely disagree with the last point that we should not allow republicans to make a comeback out of shear spite for their democratic counterparts. My reasoning is as follows. Democrats are well know for not being forceful powerful and generally strong on stances. This allows them to be pushed around by the opposite party for example, all the compromises upon compromises and yet not a single GOP vote was ever gained. The ened result is a bill that is heavily watered down which will have to be amended heavily somewhere inbetween the the short and long term future. The immediate consequence is the base is disillusioned and the opposite party is fired up with claims that the liberals ideals are unrealistic and don't actually solve the countries problems. To overcome this the party's base will have to show them that we will respond to their inaction and or deviations from the parties core ideals. A congressional loss of a large majority would go a long way to help this. I'm not saying let the republicans take over I'm saying that we need to push the democrats into a new game plan and make them take a hard turn left to act as the counterweight for reichwingers. The public option is not the reason why most people are mad about the current health bill proposed by the senate. Their mad due to certain provisions in the bill that are not condusive to reform in general. Taxing middle class health insurance benefits, no employer mandate, no regulation on how much of the capital companies take in that must be used on providing care, no regulation on the quality of the plans provided and their pricing, allowing monopolies on prescription drugs, banning importation of prescription drugs, inadequate subsidies for middle income employees, no bann on yearly caps for care, does not provide universal coverage, does not use medicare repayment structure to lower costs of providing care, allows the old to be charged far more than the young, and lastly there is a mandate that we all must enroll in such a system. The House's plan is not much better although it is much more efficient the only real problem with the house plan is the stupak amendment, and the public option is not available to people who are provided coverage through their employers which severely hamstrings it from acting as a counter weight to private insurers. The question Jeff is that I'm supposed to vote for a side that delivers these things just out of spite for the side that wants to maintain the status quo and undo the new deal? I don't like those options so I propose an alternative change the current democratic party to a party of progressives and make them push a progressive agenda. Politicians like power and the only way they can get elected is to swing left then they will. It worked for republicans why not Democrats? If a true progressive agenda is being enacted the benefits will turn public opinion in our favor.
